Hawgsmoke 2010
13-16 October 2010
Boise, Idaho

Objectives

Host World Wide Tactical Gunnery and Bombing Competition

There's nothing like flying in a four-ship of Hawgs to the range. The thought of bombing for quarters on a Friday afternoon, followed by a spirited defbrief before retiring to the bar will get even the most grizzled of Hawgdrivers misty eyed. Hawgsmoke allows A-10 pilots, from around the world, to come together and "bomb for show, but shoot for dough" on a much larger scale.

Hawg Reunion (Camaraderie and Esprit de Corps)

Being a part of a fighter squadron is analagous to being on a high school football team for the rest of your life. You have a bond that's hard to describe, but very special. With change of stations and high ops tempo, it's difficult to stay in touch. Hawgsmoke provides the perfect venue for those who have flown and maintained the Hawg to revisit those ties.

Remembrance of Lost Hawgs

It is a tradition at Hawgsmoke to begin with a remembrance ceremony for fallen comrades. Following the reading of the names of all fallen Hawgdrivers, an A-10 missing-man formation flies overhead. At the conclusion, there is the customary downing of a shot of whiskey, in honor and remembrance of old friends and colleagues. The shot glasses are then smashed as a mark of respect for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to say they will never be forgotten.

A-10 Tactics and Information Exchange

There can't be an assemblage of Hawgdrivers without robust dicussion of the thing they know and love: the Hawg. The massive event Hawgsmoke is only augments the collective power of the knowledge at bay. Not only will all tactical situations be solved, but a cure for cancer is not out of the realm of possibility.

Raise Public Awareness

Everybody loves the Hawg! Hawgsmoke's presence in Boise, Idaho will pay huge dividends to Idaho Air National Guard. The bombing competition will take place at Saylor Creek Range and has garnered the attention of the public as well as state and national leadership. Any benefit Hawgsmoke can be to the operation and expansion of Saylor Creek Range is a boon to bomb droppers everywhere.

Host Best Damn Hawgsmoke EVER!

It's a big honor to win Hawgsmoke. It's an even bigger honor to host Hawgsmoke. Fortunately they go hand in hand. The 190th Fighter Squadron has some big shoes to fill. Previous Hawgsmoke's have continued to be better than the last. We are making every effort to continue the trend.
